Update Friday 3 July

This will be our third weekend post-shutdown. We are not near capacity for any of the Sunday Masses. The best attended is Saturday 5:00 pm, followed by Sunday 10:30 am. Attendance at the 8:30 am Mass is sparse, and at the 12:30 pm Mass attendance is very sparse. Six foot social distancing is maintained. Hand sanitizer is provided at the door, and disinfectant for wiping down the pews after Mass. There is plenty of space at all weekday Masses, especially the 8:00 am.

A reminder of Mass times:

Monday -- no Mass
Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
-- 8:00 am (preceded by Morning Prayer at 7:40, and followed by the Rosary)
-- 7:00 pm (preceded by Adoration at 6:00 with Confession available)
Friday -- 12:10 pm
Saturday -- 9:00 am (weekday Mass)
Saturday -- 5:00 pm (Sunday Mass)
Sunday -- 8:30 am, 10:30 am and 12:30 pm.

During this Wuhan pandemic we will continue to be cautious. The Law of Moses has meticulous rules about things with are 'unclean.' The Law says that if you touch anything that is ritually 'unclean' then everything you touch becomes unclean unless you have washed your hands. The relevance to the Wuhan virus is obvious. For the time being, I am treating the Tabernacle as 'clean' and everything else as 'unclean.' This means that I am washing my hands every time that I approach the Tabernacle. When I disappear into the Sacristy before Communion it is because I am washing my hands. Only then do I approach the Tabernacle to distribute Communion with clean hands. If there is a need to consecrate additional hosts, the extra Ciborium is placed on the far right-hand edge of the Altar and it is covered. I also wash my hands immediately before and after Mass.

I encourage you to develop this same sense of what is 'clean' and 'unclean' when you come to Church. Especially, you need to be aware that your face mask is particularly 'unclean' because it is capturing all the potential bad things that you are breathing in or out. Whenever you touch your mask, any virus or bacterium that has been caught in the mask is transferred to your hands and subsequently to anything that you touch. When you take off or replace your mask, please handle it only by the straps. Use the hand sanitizer when you arrive and again when you leave, and help wipe down the pews with disinfectant after Mass for those who will be coming next.

Summer passes very quickly, so let's enjoy it while it is here. Remember to keep God first. "Seek ye therefore first the kingdom of God, and his justice, and all these things shall be added unto you." Matthew 6:33.
